Make Money Online with Videos on Metacafe

Metacafe is similar to Youtube, i.e. it is a site to which people upload videos. The difference, however, is that with Metacafe you can make money online at the same time, as they are willing to pay you for the videos you upload. They pay $5 for every 1,000 views of your video, although they only pay out after your video has been viewed 20,000 times.


Unlike Youtube, Metacafe goes to great lengths to filter the content on its site in order to prevent pirated material being uploaded and also to make sure only high quality videos are shown.


The site already has around 2 million users in the UK but is aiming to increase this number by tempting British video makers to use the site to make money online.


YouTube is also rumoured to be considering offering payments.


The person who has earned the most from Metcafe calls himself Kipkay, and he is rumoured to have earned over $82,000 in just one year from a series of 92 short ‘how to’ videos, such as "how to get out of handcuffs" and "how to make a cheap lie detector". Another user, called Shootingeggs, has earned more than $20,000 from videos of scientific experiments on subjects as varied as how to make flash powder and self-lighting candles.


Erick Hachenburg, Metacafe CEO, said: "If you create quality content in the user-generated content space, you should be paid for it." What a novel idea !



So if you have any talent of any sort and are able to make a video of it, what are you waiting for ? According to Hachenburg users can make thousands of dollars overnight if they produce quality videos. "Last year advertisers said you could never advertise on user-generated content. Now they are asking how they can advertise on user-generated content."

Paris Hilton Disinherited (Almost)

Paris Hilton has apparently been disiniherited by her billionaire Grandpa (almost). He has said that 97% of his billion dollar fortune will go to charities. (I would put up a picture, but you all know what she looks like already).

It is expected she will only receive 5 million dollars compared to the 100 million she was expecting. It’s all relative of course, most people would be happy to be left 5 million dollars in a will, my guess is that 5 million dollars represents a couple of weeks shopping for Paris Hilton.

Rumour has it that Grandpa Hilton has not been too impressed with Paris’s behaviour which has been a great embarassment to the family name.
Paris first became famour after a sex tape appeared on the internet in 2003.

This year she went to jail for driving with a suspended licence.
She spent Christmas in Hawaii, but has been spotted partying with K Fed in Las Vegas recently.

She may not inherit the fortune she expected but she has made a fortune already from wearing dresses (she’s a model) acting and singing, product endorsements and personal appearances.

She also helped design a collection of purses, plus a jewelry line for Amazon.com. In 2004, she was ‘involved’ in the creation of a perfume line by Parlux Fragrances. She launched a new fragrance, her fourth, in October 2007, called “Can Can” by Paris Hilton. She has also released a line of hair extensions with Hair Tech International.

There has also been footwear and nightclubs. All of which goes to show she probably has more than enough money to get by with out grandpa’s 100 million and the world is a totally nonsensical heap of dust in the middle of nowhere.

Goodbye Netscape - Long Live Firefox

Netscape is No More

AOL has said it will no longer be offering support for Netscape with effect from 1 February 2008.

The reason being cited is a 'lack of users'.

In the nineties Netscape was used by 90% of Internet users, until it was delivered a fatal blow by the Evil Empire when it introduced Internet Explorer and made it available free of charge.

Since the introduction of Firefox, Netscape's numbers have shrunk even further and it is now estimated that less than 1% of Internet users still use NEtscape.

On the Netscape Blog AOL states : "While internal groups within AOL have invested a great deal of time and energy in attempting to revive Netscape Navigator, these efforts have not been successful in gaining market share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer. ... Given AOL's current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it's the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reins fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox."

So the message is clear enough - use Firefox, which by most accounts is far superior to IE !

TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS CAKE RECIPE

In a festive departure from the normal subject of this blog, I have decided to post the traditional Christmas cake recipe as made by Mrs Beeton.

For those who haven't heard of her, Mrs Beeton is a very famous Victorian lady and publishing sensation. She was born as Isabella Mary Mayson on 12 March 1836 in Cheapside, London. She was the eldest of twenty-one children, and grew up in the Grandstand at Epsom in Surrey, where her step-father, Henry Dorling, was clerk to the racecourse.

In 1861, at the age of 25, more or less forced by circumstances, she became a work at home mom and n entrepreneur she wrote what is probably the most famous cookbook in the world known as “Mrs. Beeton’s Book of Household Management” or, “Mrs Beeton’s Cookbook”. The image we have of her is of a rather traditional matronly Victorian housewife. In fact she was quite the opposite and very much a trailblazer in the male-dominated society of her time. If she were alive today I'm sure she would have been a sucessful Internet entrepreneur. Sadly she did not live to a great age, as she died unexpectedly at the age of 28 after a short illness. Her traditional Christmas cake recipe follows below, for further recipes see the foot of this page. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Mrs Beeton's Christmas Cake Recipe (in her own words)

INGREDIENTS.—
5 teacupfuls of flour, 1 teacupful of melted butter, 1 teacupful of cream, 1 teacupful of treacle, 1 teacupful of moist sugar, 2 eggs, ½ oz. of powdered ginger, ½ lb. of raisins, 1 teaspoonful of carbonate of soda, 1 tablespoonful of vinegar.

Mode.--Make the butter sufficiently warm to melt it, but do not allow it to oil; put the flour into a basin; add to it the sugar, ginger, and raisins, which should be stoned and cut into small pieces. When these dry ingredients are thoroughly mixed, stir in the butter, cream, treacle, and well-whisked eggs, and beat the mixture for a few minutes. Dissolve the soda in the vinegar, add it to the dough, and be particular that these latter ingredients are well incorporated with the others; put the cake into a buttered mould or tin, place it in a moderate oven immediately, and bake it from 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 hours.

Time.-- 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 hours.
Average cost in 1861, 1s. 6d. (about 7.5p or 15 cents)

Make Money With Squidoo

A few months ago I wrote a couple of posts about Squidoo, the site created by the highly successful serial entrepreneur Seth Godin, wondering out loud whether it was possible to make money online through Squidoo - see Squidoo Bucks or Squidoo Sucks and Seth Godin Sinks the Spammers. The principle is simple, you create a page on Squidoo on whatever topic you like, people visit your page and click on the ads. or buy stuff after clicking on links and you get paid a commission. Some people apparently make hundreds of dollars a month. Well after battling away with the system for around 6 months I did indeed make some money - $8.42 ! Woohoo.

I've got 3 pages at the moment, one on designer handbags Designer Labels , one on very expensive Franck Muller watches Franck Muller Watches and one on Christmas shopping ideas Christmas Presents. The money is obviously a ridiculously small amount for the number of hours I've put in and I honestly don't know how people make hundreds a month on it, unless they have around 300 pages set up!

My designer handbag lens was at one point no. 33 in the shopping group, but if you don't update your page every day it soon slips back down, I was no. 570 yesterday. I will battle on through Christmas but then if there has been no significant improvement I will knock it on the head, unless someone lets me in on the secret of what you need to do to get visitors. But I won't be holding my breath.

Bobby Petrino Shock Resignation from Atlanta

Atlanta Coach Bobby Petrino Shock Resignation

After 13 games and a terrible start at Atlanta Falcons, Bobby Petrino has shocked everybody by resigning Tuesday to go back to Arkansas.

Petrino came to Atlanta from Louisville in January, signing a US$24m, 5 year contract..

"I was able to see the commitment that has been made here," Petrino said at the time. "I believe this is truly the best football job in the NFL. It was an easy decision for me."

After Vick came under investigation for a dogfighting. He was sentenced to 23 months in prison so Petrino clearly decided to move back to care of his dogs.

So what happens to the $24m ? Who knows ? Maybe he gets to keep it, that sometimes happens on Wall Street.

Arkansas called a late-night news conference for a "major announcement."

The Falcons made a short two-paragraph statement.

Petrino is not answering calls to his cell phone or his Atlanta home. His brother, Paul Petrino made no comment ! "I don't think I can say anything about it right now," he said. "I'm sorry."
Well that’s not really no comment, but he did apologize.

At Louisville, Petrino produced some of the highest-scoring teams in the country.

An Atlanta team minust dog lover Vick was a different kettle of fish, 24th in total yards and 30th in scoring.

Blank said at the time « I feel real fortunate we have a terrific guy leading our team, our CEO, in Bobby Petrino,"

To some players Petrino seemed aloof. He sometimes walked through the locker room without speaking to anyone ! Has he no manners ?

Clearly, Petrino has decided to get out while he can and go back where he’s wanted. But I’m still wonderin gwht happens to that $24m.
