Martina Hingis Banned for Two Years
Martina Hingis has been banned for 2 years today after testing positive for cocaine at the Wimbledon lawn tennis association championships in 2007.
The ITF said an independent anti-doping tribunal found Hingis had ‘committed an offence’. Hingis announced her retirement Nov. 1 when she also announced the positive test,
Hingis denies using cocaine, but according to the tribunal there were no doubts over her sample.
Hingis is a 5 time Grand Slam winner, her suspension is backdated to Oct. 1, although as she is retired how much affect will this have ?
The ITF disqualified Hingis' results from last year's Wimbledon and any subsequent tournaments she participated in. She also forfeits any ranking points gained and US$129,481 in prize money.
Hingis has denied ever using cocaine.
"I find this accusation so horrendous, so monstrous that I've decided to confront it head on by talking to the press," she said. "I am frustrated and angry. I believe that I am absolutely 100 per cent innocent."

Career = over. Such a shame.
Yup - but I guess she doesn't mind too much as she retired last year - and she probably has a whole new 'career' lined up getting paid to wear dresses
What really amazes me is that when an athlete tests positive for a banned substance, they subsequently bleat their innocence even when the second test comes back positive. Unbelievable!
'Not guilty' Martina claimed.. but I guess I'll retire anyway ! :) Guilty ! Thanks, Dave
Hi CC - nice cigar site :-)
Tony - yes maybe it's in their athletic DNA ? They usually own up around 3 years later. Nice cold sore site !
